Amelia Undertow follows decisions that affect people in Fernandina Beach and Nassau County: public budgets, housing, roads, safety, growth, surveillance and services. We aim to publish twice a week when the records support a useful story.

How we work

We start with original public records and direct sources. We link the documents behind material claims, date the record and say whether an action is proposed, adopted or in effect. We identify gaps rather than fill them with guesses. When we analyze a set of records, we label the inference. Opinion is labeled as opinion.

We do not use a stock photograph to imply that it depicts a local event. Images appear only when the rights, location and caption can be verified; illustrative stock will be identified as such.
