The Roundabout Isn’t Done Yet. Weekend Paving Is Back on the Calendar.

Nassau County now plans final paving at Amelia Island Parkway and Buccaneer Trail for November 7–8, weather permitting. Drivers should expect brief traffic control, with permanent markings at least two weeks later.

Why it matters

Drivers using the Amelia Island Parkway and Buccaneer Trail roundabout may encounter crews and short periods of traffic control this weekend. The final surface and permanent lane markings are separate steps, so the intersection may still look unfinished after paving.

The last asphalt layer at the Amelia Island Parkway–Buccaneer Trail roundabout is now scheduled for Saturday, November 7, with work possibly continuing Sunday, November 8. Nassau County says the plan depends on weather. It warned drivers to watch for work crews and short-term traffic control during the weekend operation.

This is a revised target. The county had announced October 24–25 paving, then said in its November 1 update that weather impacts forced another delay. The earlier notice anticipated flaggers and single-lane closures, with no full detour planned. The newer November 1 notice does not promise a particular lane pattern or rule out a later change. Drivers should follow the current on-site signs and county updates.

What is finished, and what comes next

According to the county’s November 1 progress report, final grading of roadside swales and sod placement had been completed the preceding week. Florida Power & Light had supplied power to the new light poles and the old poles were removed. Light fixtures were listed as work anticipated for the week of November 2.

The county says thermoplastic pavement markings will be installed no sooner than 14 days after the final friction-course asphalt goes down, to allow curing. That means permanent striping is not scheduled for the same weekend as paving. The 14-day period starts after the surface is actually placed; a rain delay would move that clock.

Questions still open

The November 1 bulletin does not give exact hours for paving, the number or duration of lane restrictions, or a firm date for final markings. Those details matter to residents planning weekend trips, and they should be confirmed in a later county notice. The county lists project administrator Rafael Castro of KCI Technologies as a contact for concerns in the same update.

As of this report, November 7–8 is a planned construction window, not completed work. Amelia Undertow will update this story if Nassau County changes the schedule or posts a final traffic plan.
