Early Voting Is Over. Nassau’s Election-Day Rules Could Catch You Off Guard.

The flexibility to vote at any early-voting site ended Saturday. On Tuesday, voters must go to their assigned precinct, while a vote-by-mail ballot has a different return destination.

Why it matters

Showing up at the wrong voting site or carrying a completed mail ballot to a precinct can cost time when the polls are open for only 12 hours. Check your assigned location and ballot status before you leave home.

Nassau County’s elections office says early voting for the November 3 general election ran October 22–31. That window is over. The office’s early-voting instructions allowed registered county voters to use any early-voting site, but its Election Day instructions say Tuesday voters must use the polling place assigned to their precinct. The office warns that locations can change between elections.

Find your precinct before Tuesday

Polls are scheduled to open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, November 3. A voter already in line at 7 p.m. may still cast a ballot, according to the Supervisor of Elections. Use the office’s precinct locator to find your assigned polling place, or use its voter-record lookup to see your location and sample ballot. Do not rely on the early-voting site you used before, or on an older polling-place address.

The elections office asks voters to bring identification showing both a photograph and signature; if one ID lacks a signature, a second ID can provide it. Its Election Day page lists accepted forms and says a voter without the required identification may cast a provisional ballot for later eligibility review. Bringing a marked-up sample ballot can also help speed up the visit.

A mail ballot has to reach the elections office

If you already have a vote-by-mail ballot, the county says it must reach the Supervisor of Elections Office by 7 p.m. Tuesday. The office says a completed mail ballot cannot be turned in at an Election Day polling place. Secure drop boxes are available at early-voting sites during early-voting hours, which ended October 31. The elections office is at 96135 Nassau Place, Suite 3, Yulee; check directly with the office at 904-491-7500 for any Election Day delivery question.

If you requested a mail ballot but decide to vote in person instead, the county’s published instructions say the mail ballot will be canceled and a new ballot issued at the polls. If you returned a mail ballot already, use the official ballot-status tool rather than assuming it was counted. The tool flags a received ballot with an error in red; the office says a missing or mismatched envelope signature can be cured by 5 p.m. on the second day after the election, which is Thursday, November 5 for this election. Follow the office’s instructions for a cure affidavit if the tool flags a problem.

What is known as of November 1: These are the county’s published voting procedures and deadlines for the upcoming election, not election results. If a polling place or instruction changes, the Supervisor of Elections website and its office are the sources to check before traveling.
