Nassau’s weekend library hours are about to vanish
Bryceville is the county system’s only branch with published Saturday hours. Its announced October 29 closure would leave no regularly scheduled weekend branch hours.
For residents who can visit a library only on the weekend, the published schedule offers no other branch day after Bryceville closes. An outdoor pickup locker would help with holds, but it is not the same as a staffed branch.
The Nassau County Public Library System says its Bryceville branch will close effective October 29, 2026. Until then, the branch’s regular schedule includes Saturday hours from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., with a midday closure.
The library system’s published hours for its other four branches show weekday hours only. On those posted schedules, closing Bryceville removes the system’s last regularly scheduled Saturday branch hours. That is a reading of the current schedule, not a statement that the county has ruled out future weekend service.
What the county says will remain
The library says it is working to install an outdoor locker at the Bryceville facility so patrons can pick up requested materials. It says the book drop will remain and it plans to continue library events at the Bryceville Community Center. The notice does not give an installation date for the locker. Digital library resources remain available, according to the library.
The county’s October 5 budget summary describes “restructured library operations,” new lockers and reduced operating hours in the adopted FY 2026–27 budget. It also lists the elimination of voluntary grants to nonprofit organizations and cuts to some routine drainage maintenance and roadside mowing.
